Microfluidics promises miniaturization of benchtop laboratory processes within a highly integrated capillary network. Parallel processing is attractive for many high throughput applications including but not limited to drug discovery. However, the plurality of samples in a typical fluidic network places severe demands on the lighting subsystem; chip readers often require costly sources, filters, delivery optics and detectors.
